Lost and Found Division

All items lost on University property are processed through the Lost and Found Office located at the UCSB Police Department. University policy 5905 requires all items found on University property to be turned over to the Police Department. All items are held for 90 days prior to being reclaimed, auctioned, or discarded.

 

Lost and Found Office hours:

  • Monday- 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  • Tuesday- Closed
  • Wednesday- 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Thursday- Closed
  • Friday- 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
  • Saturday & Sunday- Closed

Frequently asked Questions:

Q. If I found an item someone might have lost what should I do first?
A. Any found items should be turned into the Campus Police Department or you can drop them off at the Library Security Desk.

Q. I want to get the found item back to its rightful owner, but what happens if the owner never comes forward to claim it?
A. If the item is not claimed by the owner the person who found it may claim it after 90-days.

Q. Where at the Public Safety Bldg., do I go to turn over the item I have found?
A. You may turn the found item into Dispatch in the Main Lobby of the Campus Police Dept.

Q. Are there any places on Campus to turn in found items?
A. Yes! There are 23 drop off places that found items may be turned into. Davidson Library Security Desk, Ucen Access Desk, Rec Cen, Instructional Computing-Phelps, Arbor, Student Health Center, Francisco Torres. Just to name a few.

Q. What if I find Cash?
A. If cash is found it must be turned into the Campus Police Dept., if it is not claimed in 90-days the person who found it may claim it.

Q. Who do I call if I find an abandoned bike?
A. You should call the Campus Police Dept. at 893-4179 if you found it ON Campus. You should call the I.V. Foot Patrol Office at 681-4148 if you found it OFF Campus.

Q. Who do I call if my bike is stolen?
A. A. You should call the Campus Police Dept. at 893-4179 if stolen ON Campus. You should call the I.V. Foot Patrol Office at 681-4148 if stolen it OFF Campus..

Q. What happens to the Lost & Found items after 90-days?
A. Items that have been in Lost & Found for 90-days are purged and sent to Central Stores to be Sold. Anyone not affiliated with the Campus Police Dept., may purchase these items, but only on Tuesday & Thursday between 2:00 & 4:00 pm.
