Paramedic / Ambulance

The University of California Paramedics deliver basic and advanced life support services to the campus and Isla Vista communities. Rescue 7 is a 24-hour operation under the direction of the Police Department. In 2001 Rescue 7 responded to 554 calls, transporting 340 patients to a medical facility. 148 patients received advanced life support. 187 patients received basic life support. Student EMTs assist paramedics.

 

Salary and Benefits

Salary:Competitive salary. Experienced Paramedics will be considered for an appointment above entry level.
Retirement: The University contributes to a retirement fund for every employee. Voluntary pre and post tax investments funds are also available.
Health Insurance: The University contributes to the cost of dental, vision, and a selection of health plans.
Uniforms: Provided.
Holidays: 13 holidays per year.

Vacation
  • 15 days a year for 1-10 years service.
  • 18 days a year for 10-15 years service.
  • 21 days a year for 15-20 years service.
  • 24 days a year for 20+ years service.
  • Sick Leave: 12 days sick leave per year.

    Minimum Qualifications

    21 years of age or older.

    Equivalent to high school diploma. College degree preferable.

    Weight proportionate to height.

    Vision no less than 20/100, correctable to at least 20/30 in both eyes. Functional color vision.

    Free from disability obstructive to job performance.

    No felony convictions (pursuant to Government Code Section 1029).

    Possession of valid Class-C California Driver's License and Ambulance driver's license with a safe driving record as evidenced by a DMV report.

    Successful completion of oral interviews, medical examinations, and extensive background investigation.

    Ability and willingness to work in a university environment rich in diversity containing a wide variety of ethnicities, cultures, nationalities, religions, sexual orientations, etc.

    Ability and willingness to work in an environment, which demands high integrity, accountability and involvement in the community as a problem solving resource.

    Possess State of California Paramedic certificate and County of Santa Barbara Paramedic certificate.

    Be willing to work 24-hour shifts, 56 hour/week, and unscheduled shifts as they occur.
