UCSB Police officers have statewide jurisdiction; are duly
sworn under section 830.2 of the California Penal Code, and are
trained under state guidelines and mandates. The UCSB Police Department
is a full service police organization that is open 24-hours a
day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

| The University of California Santa Barbara Police Department
provides traditional and non-traditional police and public safety
services. Our department provides for the peace, safety and security
of persons and facilities on university property. Our efforts
are directed toward creating an environment where research, education,
and public service flourish.

UNITS WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT |

Patrol |
| Police Officers maintain 24 hour uniformed patrol coverage
on foot, bicycle and in motor vehicles. They respond to crimes,
injuries, illnesses, fires, and other emergencies; engage in crime
prevention; receive, process, and investigate citizens' complaints;
arrest offenders and make court appearances; control traffic;
attend community meetings; and safeguard the custody and disposal
of evidence and lost and found property. |

Investigations |
| Full time Detectives investigate all crimes and incidents
that occur on University property.
|
Crime Prevention |
| A full time Police Officer is assigned to a proactive approach
to preventing crime within the community.
|
Communications |
| Public Safety Dispatchers operate voice radio under FCC and
University regulations and dispatch mobile enforcement and emergency
units, answer business and emergency phones, record data, maintain
logs, word processing, data entry, monitor and operate variety
of computers.

Community Service Organization (CSO) |
| The CSO was established in 1972 as part of the Police Department
to act as a liaison between students, community members, and the
Police. Approximately 50 student CSOs patrol the campus on bicycles
reporting emergencies. They provide public assistance and personal
safety escorts, security checks, and detect safety hazards on
campus and in campus facilities. CSO provides security for campus
events and residence halls. CSO also conducts a program of bicycle
safety education, licensing, and enforcement. |

Paramedics |
| Staffed by state certified Paramedics and student Emergency
Medical Technicians, the Rescue Unit provides the campus and Isla
Vista communities with ambulance and basic and advanced life support
services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. |

Lost & Found |
| All items lost on University property are processed through
the Police Department. The community can report and recover their
lost property through Lost & Found Office. Items are held for
90 days.

| All police reports are processed through our Records Office.
